A rich middle-aged landlord walked her Goldendoodle on the street, and she saw a beggar cross-legged, sitting at the corner of a store.

She walked straight to the ragged beggar with a snobby smile and him, ‘Call my dog ‘father’ ten times, and I’ll give you $100.’

The beggar, who moved his bleary eyes from this sturdy woman to her dog with shining fur, opened his mouth and called it father loudly ten times. Such a commotion attracted other people to surround this rare ‘live show’ as a wall.

The woman chinned up in arrogance and fished out green bills from her jewelry handbag. The beggar asked, ‘If I call your dog ‘father’ 100 times, will you be able to give me $10,000?’

Face twisting in disgust and disbelief, the woman spat out, ‘Definitely. It’s nothing for me.’ And the beggar did so without hesitating.

The bystanders laughed in irony, sighed with pity, looked down on the beggar’s ‘worthless’ dignity, or looked down on the woman’s ‘invaluable’ sympathy. The beggar grabbed a thick stack of money and said, ‘Thank you, MOTHER! I just said hi to dad.’

While facing unfair adversity, giving yourself the time and space to squash the resentment and humiliation, and calming down the boiling fury to adopt a different mindset, you can make the most unexpected and influential strike back.
