So It Goes…
I just hope people having weapons against people having weapons, children having crayons draw with children having crayons, the elderly smoking pipe share old good memory with the elderly smoking pipe.
When the war broke out, my father reminded me twice, “You got to read Taiwanese news, don’t only rely on CNN or MSNBC.”
I felt baffled by his suggestion since he never cared to bother where I absorbed my information or knowledge to write. Why now?
Then, I knew why after three days.
The news on CNN and MSNBC indicated which side America stood behind. They reported the situation on the field logically as an outsider in a matter-of-fact manner. They have war experts discussing both sides’ strategies.
However, in Taiwan, we didn’t support either side, so we reported what we saw happen to average people like us.
You may say news should be reported from a professional and objective perspective. Taiwanese news is full of drama.
Drama? No, we just reported what happened to the civilians that could be me, us, and you.
Children were beheaded, people dug out dead infants still sucking their mother’s dead breasts, hundreds of babies were killed, the elderly were paraded as a hostage, and the civilians were used as defensive shields…
So it goes…, a general feeling of Western countries to this war.
I was so naive, stupid, and crazy to talk about my upset that the prayer I attended once a week didn’t send any blessing to the victims of the current war. It was a selfish act to mitigate the despair suffocating my heart.
From New Mexico, this American was once assigned to Afghanistan to be a mental consultant and got a degree, and two masters' in psychology and international relationship.
“Okay, okay. I was brought up in a religious family. I have been to 40-ish countries. I’ve seen all that. It’s a negative and unnecessary conversation.”
So it goes…, at the age of 47, he shared his life goal to help people around the world learn to have a peaceful balance of life.
